Climate Change Project
Reflection:
1.) What is climate change and how is it different from global warming?
Climate change is an environment’s weather pattern changing over a long period of time. Usually, climate change happens naturally but currently, a lot of the difference in climates is from humans. Global warming, on the other hand, is the whole world’s temperature increasing from greenhouse gasses, but mostly carbon dioxide. These two words get mixed up so much but the main difference in my mind is global warming is the earth changing temperatures all at the same time through greenhouse gasses. Whereas climate change could be different all around the world. As well as climate change is a natural occurrence, yet global warming is entirely from greenhouse gasses and carbon emissions that are made through humans.
2.) Why should we care about climate change, now, when it's been happening naturally since the Earth began?
We should start caring about climate change way more because though climate change is a natural habit, it is being sped up by humans. For example, just about everything, we do using non-renewable resources release carbon into our atmosphere. This carbon is trapped and then radiation evolves causing ecosystems to warm up. Climate change is when environmental natural weather patterns change over a long period of time, usually decades or more. So the climate is always changing in places but very slow. However, right now with humans and other contributors, climate change is becoming faster and it could be a threat in the long run.
3.) How does your project demonstrate your understanding of climate change?
In our project, we made an informational essay related to climate change and its effects on the environment and animals. We stated some contributors to climate change and showed a full understanding of why climate change is such a threat to a lot of organisms. We demonstrated our understanding of climate change by using as much evidence in the essay as we could relate to our topic. For example, as the temperatures in the ocean rise ever so slightly, through climate change. Coral reefs are being affected as they are reacting funny to the warmer waters. This means that they are spitting out all of their nutrients as these coral polyps are used to colder waters. This term is also referred to as coral bleaching and is harming these organisms.
4.) What was your largest area of growth during this project?
My largest area of growth from this project had to be learning to not procrastinate. Though we split up our work evenly we both at first procrastinated a lot and this slowed down our project. We only did a few things during the first few weeks and were extremely stressed when we had only two weeks left. I personally learned to try to do something productive each class period so I wouldn’t procrastinate in the future. The way I will fulfill this is by making a project timeline the first week of a project so I know what I need to do each week.
5.) What was your greatest strength during this project?
My greatest strength from this project had to be my collaboration skills. My partner and I definitely had trouble coming up with an idea but once we did we worked extremely well together. For example, we split up the work almost evenly from the infographic to the essay. We both refined the infographic to make it the best possible. Our first draft of the essay was not up to an informational essay par. So we took the problem into our hands and figured out what we were going to do. For the last few weeks we refined the essay as much as we could before the deadline. We split up the work so we both had something to work on and fixed the problem. I now see that with the collaboration I used personally, our project flew by quicker and was extremely refined.
