Pow #4: Planning The Platforms
Junior Math Reflection
1.) Throughout my time at Animas the main change to my 4 habits of a mathematician has gotta be generating ideas. Throughout the units in junior year I learned so much about quadratics, linear and exponential functions, derivatives, and lots of other things. Beyond that with my new knowledge I definitely feel like my ability to solve problems and think through problems has adapted. At the beginning of the year I used to be an all out guess and check kid. I'm not even going to lie I was pretty good at figuring out solutions slowly. I learned that using your knowledge to generate ideas for solving problems really allowed me to excel in the second semester. I also feel that with gaining new knowledge I felt smarter about math and allowing me to generate more ideas allowed me to ask lots of questions as well. The second region where I saw personal growth this year was simply in reflecting and synthesizing. Believe me our school does a lot of this but in math this year I grew up because I was able to reflect on what I was learning and synthesize it into my brain which I had never really done before. Prior to this year I would reflect on my math and find no good use from it. Whereas this year I was able to learn more about whatever the topic was. I learned that sometimes the best learning comes from breaking down and figuring out where you went wrong and then learning from that for next time.
2.) My biggest improvement as a student has got to be my student voice. I was able to learn a lot this year and do the ideas for projects that I wanted to do by simply talking with my fellow teachers. I learned that giving for say an extension request is always worth trying if it means that you will make better work and be proud of it. As a student I now feel a lot more comfortable to ask for what I want. As I grew I realized that if you're going to be scared of asking for change or help then you're doing things wrong. Advocacy shouldn't be a nerve wracking thing instead I learned its a great tool for helping a student out in a school that expresses excitement for Advocacy. The other habit of heart and mind that I grew in was perseverance. A lot of times this year I found myself either drowning in work or lacking motivation to do the work I had. Though at the end of the day I remembered what was important. As a student I worked my butt off for most of the school year and persevered through the bulky workload I wasn't used to. Though the point is I did persevere and make it through the year. Another time where I persevered was on the write up and reflection for the meadows and malls project. I had little motivation to complete those assignments during class and lacked motivation outside of school. Leading up to the due date I knew I had to change something and figure out a way to work. I listened to music in a quite environment and worked for a good long time which allowed me to get through the masses of work I had.
3.) Not even going to lie, I did miss some school this year. i wasn't the most excelling in school but I definitely did show effort and refinement when I was here. Getting back into school after the online and masked school was so much different., It was a lot harder then what I remembered and I found myself drowning in a lot of work constantly. Though I think my main accomplishment from this year was that I made it and i'm a senor now. Although I didn't pass with flying colors I am proud of the work I did.
